Marley progressed to round two of the Worcestershire County League T20 knock out with a hard-fought win against Old Virgonians.
Batting first the visitors were in trouble as Kai Clissold ripped out a couple of early wickets and from 2 for 2 in was struggle for the Vigs.
Ahsab Nawaz Fiaz held it all together with a belligerent 46 and got some support from Jamie Thrope and Muhammad Shaiq with 19 apiece.
Will Dovey took 3 for 30 from his four overs, with Jacob Lewis, Tom Stokes and James Patrick taking a wicket each, but a total of 118 seemed very gettable, at less than a run a ball.
At 47 for 4 things did not look great for the Martlets. Ollie Dunks hit Phil Mackie for three sixes in the first three balls of an over, but the wily veteran gained revenge, with Dunks caught at long on for 25.
It was left to Will Dovey with 30 and Ollie Saunders with 24 in an unbeaten stand of 49 to play some ‘heads-on’ cricket and see Martley home by four wickets, and earn a home tie in the next round against old rivals Rushwick.
