Martley Mandarins made a winning start to the season with 10 run win at Romsley and Hunnington.
Alex Repton and Hollie Summers gave the Martley girls a fine start, each passing 30 before retiring. Sylvie Watt then kept the momentum going with 22 and with Becky Whitehouse adding 15 the Mandarins innings closed on 117 without losing a wicket in their 16 overs.
Despite a knock of 32 from Isabel Paverelli the home side couldn’t keep with the run rate against some tight Mandarins bowling and ended 10 runs short of the target.
Martley Seconds were on international duty on Saturday, making the long trek to Wales to take on Builth Wells, and although the bowlers suffered they came home with 9 valuable bonus points.
The young Martley howlers were plundered by the home side, who racked up an amazing 404 for 5 in their 45 overs.
Skipper Jai Wickham made sure everyone was involved in the game with ten Martley bowlers turning their arm over.

Martley then gave a good account of themselves in reply with Stu Watt hitting a career best 65, Stu Hayes clobbered 34 and James Patrick with 19 not out when the seconds were all out for 219, but as stated above claimed 9 points from the game.
They even arrived home on the same day they left.
