Martley at least got to take home a trophy for the new pavilion & some medals after a remarkable Midweek Cup run finally came to an end at Kidderminster CC v Harborne.
Skipper Olly Saunders won the toss & opted to bowl, but things didn’t go to plan as the openers dispatched the bad balls. Owen Birchley & Tom Vale bowled good spells of 1-29 & 1-25 in their 4 respectively while Doug Stormonth-Darling, Sam Fitch & Tobey Jones all got a wicket each. Fitchy (1-22 in 3) also running a man out last ball but the damage had been done by Warwickshire teenager A Nahal, who hit 85 from 59.
181-6 was a fine total but the boys felt they could still chase on a firm wicket. OJ made 8 before being caught & Christian Mulvihill worked 13 before being bowled. Scott Hodgetts blasted some shots in 36 from 31 to give hope as did Alex Basford 32 (27) & Dougie (24 off 18), with the posh man sending a big one to the pavilion straight.
Ben Roberts (7 off 4), Vale (12no off 6) & Fitchy (8no off 5) tried their best to slog but it was 23 short in the end.
A group that should be proud of their efforts having never made it past the 1st round of the competition before. #UTM
