SATURDAY SHOWERS AND TWO DEFEATS

The weather had a say in both the first and second team games on Saturday.

At Enville Martley fielded in the drizzle for much of the afternoon, a wet ball not great for the bowlers and the home batsmen took full toll.

James Ganderton was the ick of the Martley attack with 3 for 41 from 15 frugal overs, but the rest of the Martley attack came under pressure from the home batsman with James Johnson top scoring with 70.

Martley openers had 39 on the board but chasing a revised target lost wickets at regular intervals.

Christian Mulvihill with 26, Oli Dunks with his usual breezy style cracked 27 and Ganderton 25, but Martley wera ll out for 154, with Alex Creaven returning 6 for 40 for Enville.

The second team game at home saw Brockhampton 3rds racking up 218 for 3 in 30 overs before the rain came.

Openers Robin Holgate and Matt Davies set thee scene for the Brock with an opening stand of  134, with Holgate going on the make a fine century of 86 balls

A wicket each for  Stu Hayes, Jim Basford and Jacob Lewis.

Martley stumbled to 35 for 4, Justin Rushgrove making 28 before Stu Hayes cracked 42 for 24 balls.

But it was Jacob Lewis who made it look respectable with a valiant 36 as the last three wickets added 75.

Martley were all out for 172 leaving Brock the winners by 46 runs.

The first team are at home to Avoncroft on Saturday, while the seconds are off to Herefordshire again to take on Bartestree and Lugwardine.
