2022 was a particularly poignant year for Martley Cricket Club, as we lost four players who had all contributed to our club, over many years.
Les Griffiths was a Martley legend, on and off the field. Barry Williams was a superb bowler who died in tragic circumstances, Roy Oakey was a top bowler from the 1960’s and Nigel Massey was a fine player and always good to have around.
The club felt there was little or nothing on the ground to remember them, and those that had served the club well in the past.
To that end we have created a Memorial Garden at the Jerwy Filed which will be officially opened in 16t July but of course is there already, as you will see from the pictures.
This has been built not just for the Cricket Club but for the whole village, anyone who wants a quiet moment is most welcome to come and spend some time on the bench looking up to Berrow Hill.
We still have a few more plants to be added but already we think it looks really special.
Massive thanks to Craig Marks for the gardening skills and to Steve Hayes for building the garden and bench.
Craig is also responsible for the superb baskets and tubs around the pavilion which has brought a lot of very kind remarks from those that use the field.
